Planning a long-distance journey alone in a train?
While you might be excited as you board the train, a few hours later, you might feel bored with nothing to do, especially if your train is chugging through no-network zone and you can’t chat with your friends on your smartphone. Here are some ways you make the journey more exciting.
Carry music: While packing, make sure you carry your iPod, iPad or add some music to your smartphone.

Make a travel playlist. Don’t rely on the radio since your phone might not receive the frequency in the train. Also, make sure that your gadgets are fully-charged and carry a charger for back up.
Befriend co-passengers: The best way to pass time is to chat up with your fellow passengers, if they look the friendly-type that is. Bonding over food by sharing your dabba is the best option.
Take a walk through the train: If the compartments are interlinked, nothing is more fun than taking a walk through the entire train.
Read on the upper berth: If you have a lower berth, you could trade it with another passenger and settle in the upper-most berth. Enjoy uninterrupted reading session there.
Get down at one of the halts: If you are sure that the train will stop for more 15-20 minutes at one of the halts, get down and gorge on some local food at the station. Best option is hot vada pav or chai/coffee.
